Jesus in Revelation (16)

The Scroll only Jesus could open; continued.

John saw the Scroll rolled up and sealed with seven seals indicating that only the legal owner of the property could hold the Scroll and break its seals. The Scroll had writing on both sides. What did it say? The prophet Ezekiel answers, “Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me; And behold, a scroll of a book was in it. Then He spread it before me; and there was writing on the inside and on the outside, and written on it were lamentations and mourning and woe.: Ezekiel 2:9 – 10, NKJV. Both, the prophet Ezekiel and the prophet Zechariah saw an open scroll. Why was the Scroll shown to be open, in the Old Covenant Scriptures; while John saw it rolled up and sealed with seven seals? Because, before the Messiah came and defeated the prince of this world, Satan; the ownership of the earth has not legally been established yet. By its decision in the garden of Eden, the humankind gave the earth to Satan as his principality, but could not give him the sovereign privileges and power over the earth.

God, however, resolved, or determined, to redeem the earth and save its inhabitants; therefore, Satan’s ownership of the earth was temporary. Establishment of the rightful owner had to wait until Jesus; the promised Messiah has defeated Satan. The prophet Zechariah gives more detail concerning the writing on the Scroll. “Then he said to me, ‘This is the curse that goes out over the whole earth: Every thief shall be expelled,’ according to this side of the Scroll; and, ‘Every perjurer shall be expelled,’ according to that side of it.” Zechariah 5:3, NKJV. The prophet Ezekiel saw the lamentations and woes that will enter the dominion of the thief, Satan, and consume him at the end of the millennium. Both the thief and those who sided with him will be banished. Also, the lamentations, mourning, and woes will perish never again to oppress the inhabitants of God’s Dominion.

Jesus identified Satan as a thief. “‘All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.’  “John 10:8, NKJV. Jesus also said that Satan is a liar, and when he lies, he speaks his native language. John 8:44. Satan came into this world by deceit; he stole it. He did not gain ownership of the earth through legitimate means. The plan of salvation of the humankind existed before the creation; therefore, Satan’s subsequent ownership of it was temporary. Ephesians 1:4 – 6. The rolled Scroll, in the hand of Jesus Christ, shows that He has defeated Satan and has restored the earth and its people to God. Satan no longer has power over the earth. Jesus Christ, the Mighty Ruler, now has full authority over it.

Only He who is worthy could open the Scroll? Read the next blog.
