We must know Christ.
From the very beginning of Christianity, and throughout its history, there were those who worked tirelessly on spreading doubt concerning Jesus Christ. They were, and are, members of the Christian community, but they do not share in Christ. “They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.” 1 John 2:19, NIV. The most severe opposition to the yielded believers always has, and will always come from within the Christian congregations. How do we guard against the human-made teachings and theories?
“But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.” 1John 2:20, NIV. The “you know the truth” does not refer to human-made teachings and theories about Jesus Christ Himself, but to what Jesus said about Him. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ “John 14:6, NIV. “But you have an anointment” refers to the Holy Spirit whom Jesus sent to us from the Father, to reside in us permanently. The yielded believers have died to their old self so that Christ can live in them through the anointment – the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit communicates to us the truth, that is, who Jesus is and why He is the Christ.
The personal and experiential knowledge of Jesus Christ does not come through human-made teachings but by the Holy Spirit only. “As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain n him.” 1 John 2:27, NIV. (emphasis added) Especially today, because this is the end of the last days, the yielded believers must remain in Christ; there is no other way. To know Christ, we must be in Him always.
