Message in the Hebrews (25)

The great benefit of the New Covenant

Jesus told the believers, “‘See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it…'” Revelation 3:8, NKJV. Jesus also told the believers that He has the ‘key of David’; what He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open. King David had a servant who held the only key to the most important areas of David’s palace. No one else in David’s kingdom could open and close the important areas and facilities. Jesus, in like manner, has the key and the authority to open and close the areas in God’s Dominion. No one else in heaven or on earth has such authority and the necessary key. Mathew 28:18. The key, Jesus holds, opens the most critical access in God’s entire Dominion, namely, the access to the throne of God Himself, the Creator and the originator of it all. John 14:6. In the Old Covenant temple, no one could enter the Most Holy part of the temple, because, God appeared there, among His people. Only a high priest, according to the order of Aaron, could enter behind the curtain, with the blood of the sacrifice for sin, and only once a year, on the day of the removal of the sins of the people. Hebrews 9:7. All other times the entrance there was forbidden.

It is so, Paul asserts, because, “the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.” Hebrews 9:8, NKJV. The ‘Holiest of All refers to the throne of God. The earthly temple with its priesthood and the law was only a shadow, a symbolic depiction of the new, better, and everlasting temple, the body of Jesus Christ, where God is with us forever. Mathew 1:23. The priests in the Old Covenant temple system, with its law, could not save anyone because they were sinners, it became obsolete and had to disappear. “In that He says, ‘A new covenant,’ He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” Hebrews 8:13, NKJV. Since the Old Covenant temple, the priesthood and the law, got replaced by the ‘New Covenant’ High Priest, who officiated in his body, there had to be a change of the law. “For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.” Hebrews 7:12, NKJV. Aaron belonged to the tribe of Levi, Jesus Christ is from the tribe of Judah; therefore, nothing applicable to Aaron’s priesthood could apply to the New Testament Priesthood – Jesus Christ. Aaron was the shadow, Jesus Christ is the reality. The system of the shadow could never be a reality.

“Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the vail, that is His flesh,” Hebrews 10:20, NKJV. Jesus Christ is the only way to God, and it stands open forever, for all. John 14:6; John 10:9. Jesus Christ made us “kings and priests to His God and Father.” Revelation 1:6. By suffering the Cross of Christ, Jesus qualified us to enter the ‘Holiest of All,’ in prayer and the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ thus inaugurated a new function, a unique circumstance of the priesthood in that, not only the High Priest but all the priests, the believers, can freely enter the Most Holy, without fear. This new circumstance did not exist before. The: “new and living way” had no precedence, nor can it have an antecedent. It is the New Testament reality and blessing. Jesus Christ is the High Priest in the new temple, His body, and new law, the law of love, because the old, the shadow, could not help and therefore, it no longer exists. Hallelujah.
