“And now dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.” 1 John 2:28, NIV. The Holy Spirit reminds us always that we have a new life, perfect, and eternal life in Jesus Christ. Because of the anointing, we received, we know that the life of sin of the entire humankind died forever, in the body of Jesus Christ, on the cross at Golgotha. “But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.” John 12:32, NIV. John uses the phrase “born of him” because, in Jesus Christ, we all have died to sin, and have risen with Him into eternal life. “If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.” 1 John 2:29, NIV.
John does not distinguish between Jesus Christ and the Father. Therefore, he maintains that those who are born of Jesus Chris are born of God also. Those who, by trusting Jesus, have surrendered their self, and have accepted the righteous life of Jesus Christ are born both, of Christ and the Father.
John assures the readers of his Epistle that they have the perfect and eternal life here and now, but the believers must remain in Christ. “See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and the Father. And this is what he promised us – even eternal life.” 1 John 2:24, 25, NIV. The yielded believers continually, in their daily life, demonstrate they are in Christ and the Father, and that Christ lives in them.
