The Message in Romans (39)

The conquerors in Christ

Those who are in Christ Jesus delight in doing what is right but find it difficult because the old body is weak, and it does not respond appropriately to the commands by the new spirit they have in Jesus Christ. However, the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us, assures us that God is on our side, He loves us, and in all things, works for our good”. Romans 8:28, NIV. God created us because He loved us, and He chose, or He determined, before the creation, that we will be conformed to the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ; 1 Corinthians 15:49, NIV.

God, in His foreknowledge, chose us and He predestined us for salvation in Jesus Christ. Romans 8:29, NIV. “Predestined” means that God, before He created us, determined, decided, that the redeemed sinners will bear the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ. Before the cross at Golgotha God had only one Son, concerning the humankind. However, after the cross at Golgotha, God has many sons and daughters; they are the yielded believers, the brothers, and sisters of His Son Jesus Christ. Mathew 28:10; Hebrews 2:11. This predestination is the effective and permanent fulfillment of God’s will for the humankind. Also, His will is that; “…all who look to his Son and believe in him shall have eternal life”…, John 6:40, NIV. Because of God’s love and predestination; the salvation granted to humankind in Jesus Christ, becomes a real personal experience in the life of the yielded believers. Paul assures us that, because of what God accomplished on our behalf, “we are more than conquerors.” Romans 8:37, NIV.

Paul, considering the above, asks a question; “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31, NIV. Could God who on our behalf, did not spare His Son, be against us? Could Jesus Christ who was willing to suffer the Cross of Christ so we could have the eternal life, be against us? The Paul’s firm conviction should also be the conviction of every yielded believer; “For I am convinced,” Paul states that nothing, neither in heaven nor on the earth, “can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38, 39.
