You Will Surely Die (10

To live, you must die to the law & know the righteousness

We could also distinguish between the knowledge about Righteousness and knowledge of Righteousness of God. Knowing about the righteousness of God could not qualify us for eternity. Knowledge of Righteousness of God ensures us the God-given right to eternity. The yielded believers have the experiential or indwelling Righteousness of God. To have the indwelling Righteousness of God, we must “take our cross daily” and follow Jesus to Golgotha, and there be crucified to self so that Christ, the Righteousness of God, can live in us. When by faith in Jesus Christ we accept His death on the cross as our death; His resurrection as our resurrection; His life as our life, we then become a new creation in Jesus Christ. Then, and only then, the Righteousness of God will become our personal experience.

“Therefore, we were buried with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”(Romans 6:4 – 6, NET.

Just as the wife, the humankind, had to die to free herself from the marriage to her first husband, the law, so also, our old self must that we may become free from sin. Knowing everything there is to know about Jesus Christ, would be of no use if we do not die to old-self so that Christ can live in us and thus, we would know Him. Only that what Jesus did on our behalf could be our Righteousness from God. We could not contribute to it at all.

“Consequently, just as condemnation for all people came through one transgression, so too through the one righteous act came righteousness of life for all people.” (Romans 5:18, NET)
